[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Recently Ronnie Dagnin completed the Gabion work at Booysens Reserve, near the Southern Johannesburg Barnes Fencing branch called Wire Converters. The project was started in late April after the summer rains stopped, after quite a wet season. The existing channel was full of debris and vegetation growth and had to be cleared for the placing of a river mattress apron upon a layer of Geo-textile non-woven grade, 210g/m2. The Gabion wall of 2m height was built for the full length of the channel alongside pre-cast concrete culverts placed onto a 250mm thick reinforced concrete slab, to prevent further erosion of the embankment sidewalls.
A 250mm think steel reinforced concrete cover slab was built on the top of the completed structure to act as a bridge between the two side embankments to allow for transfer of products and materials directly across the river by forklift instead of having to travel all the way around the roadway to achieve the same purpose.
To protect the hexagonal woven Gabion mesh from corrosion at the watercourse, the two base layers of the Gabion structure were Class A galvanised together with an extruded grey PVC coating, up to a height of 1.30m.
The total wall length was about 60m long, and the river width was about 4.5m wide. Imported shot/blasted rock from a nearby quarry was used for the filling of Gabions, approximately 2.0tons/m3. Production rates of 1.5m3/man/day were achieved. Once completed the existing embankment was tapered down to the top of the gabion wall, to allow for the subsequent growth of local vegetation.
We congratulate Petron Engineering on a job well done. Please contact us or Mr. Ronnie Dagnin at 082-855 1447, or ronniedagnin@iburst.co.za for further information on this interesting Gabion application/project. We look forward to hearing from you.[/vc_column_text][jig_vc][justified_image_grid row_height=250 height_deviation=50 caption=off overlay_icon=on orderby=menu_order filterby=off filter_style=buttons filter_orderby=title_asc last_row=flexible load_more=click load_more_text=”LOAD MORE” load_more_count_text=none load_more_mobile=no initially_load=12 load_more_limit=6 ng_gallery=63][/jig_vc][/vc_column][/vc_row]
