GABION ROCK SUPPLY

GABION ROCK SUPPLY

We supply non-weathered rock for gabion and rip rap protection and feature structures, many colors are available, sizes 100-250mm.

Quality gabion baskets necessitate high-quality rock infill, which should be solid and unweathered, with recommended sizes of 100-250 mm for gabions and 60 mm or larger for river mattresses.

The appropriate rock specifications and density (minimum of 2.6 tons/m³) are crucial, and soft rocks or brick fragments are unsuitable due to their water absorption and weakening over time. Care must be taken to ensure that rock sizes are larger than the mesh openings to maintain structural integrity and avoid the removal of small fragments during high water flows.

Rock should be placed close to the packing position during delivery to minimize handling time, with labour capacity typically allowing for 1 m³ of gabion to be packed per man per day.

Overall costs for installed gabions comprise one-third rock, one-third labour, and one-third for the galvanized basket, with an additional 15% for PVC-coated options; inquiries for further advice or rock supply are welcome.
