Gabion Baskets is proud to unveil our latest undertaking: transforming a traditional wooden retaining wall into a stunning, contemporary gabion structure at a prestigious holiday home in Zimbali Estate.

Project Overview

Our client’s vision was clear: replace an existing wooden retaining wall with a structure that not only provides stability and function but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of their property. The challenge was to create a solution that aligns with the serene and harmonious ethos of Zimbali Estate, known for its commitment to environmental care and luxurious living.

The Solution

Embracing the challenge, Gabion Baskets crafted a unique design incorporating steel black frames with 4mm welded mesh filled with rock. These 500mm square cages, varying in height to align at the same level, were strategically placed 300mm apart. This innovative approach created a screen effect, offering privacy without the imposition of a solid wall.

The upper steel frames, measuring 3mx0.5mx0.5m each, rest atop smaller, various-length steel cages. All structures are securely bolted to ensure stability, which is especially crucial given the proximity to the client’s pool area.

Adding Functionality

In addition to the privacy screen, our design included functional steps, providing seamless access from the front garden to the sides and back of the house. These steps, each 300mm high and 1m wide, were crafted from similar gabion baskets and finished with poured concrete caps, combining utility with style.
