At Gabion Baskets, we take pride in transforming ideas into breathtaking structures, and this project is no exception.
Building the Foundation
The project began with meticulous planning and excavation work.
The property’s natural landscape posed a challenge, with lush greenery and uneven terrain.
Our dedicated team, undaunted by the task, embarked on the journey of clearing the area and excavating the ground.
As you can see in the initial photos, this process required careful handling of plants and extensive earthwork.
We carefully removed excess soil, ensuring it served a dual purpose – some was placed strategically to level the adjacent road, while the rest was stored on-site for further use.
Creating the L-Shaped Masterpiece
The first part of the project involved constructing an L-shaped gabion wall that stretched an impressive 24 metres in length.
The client initially envisioned a height of 800mm for this wall, but flexibility and adaptability are at the core of our approach.
Together, we decided on a height of 500mm for this section.
Our skilled team took the challenge head-on, efficiently assembling the gabion baskets, placing them meticulously, and filling them with carefully selected stones. The result was a visually striking boundary that beautifully complemented the property.
Rising to New Heights
The second phase of our project aimed even higher – both literally and figuratively. Stretching over 50 metres, this gabion wall was designed to be 600mm tall. Its significance lay in not just its structural prowess but its role in enhancing the property’s privacy and aesthetics.
Meanwhile, the lower section of the boundary, extending to the property’s entrance gate, presented a unique requirement. It needed to be 400mm tall, designed to seamlessly integrate with the overall structure while ensuring safe access to the property.
Mastering the Art of Gabion Construction
This endeavour demanded a combination of precision, dedication, and artistry. Our team worked tirelessly to achieve perfection in the gabion baskets, ensuring they were not only structurally sound but also visually captivating.
Each stone was carefully chosen to harmonise with the property’s surroundings, creating an organic, earthy feel. Compaction and meticulous craftsmanship were pivotal in constructing a gabion wall that would stand the test of time.
The Final Stretch
As we approach the project’s completion, there’s a sense of fulfilment and pride. More than half of the second wall is now standing tall, with just a final 35 metres to go. Soon, we’ll be applying the finishing touches, ensuring that every element of this gabion boundary wall is a testament to quality and ingenuity.
