Shaping Landscapes in Constantia Nek

Shaping Landscapes in Constantia Nek

We began constructing the gabion wall for Lynne Forbes at the end of April, following a site visit with her.

She wanted a 40-meter-long gabion wall to retain soil for the lawn area of her newly built house in Constantia Nek, which boasts a lovely view of the Table Mountain Nature Reserve. We immediately started excavation on-site during the first week. Despite some rain delays, we laid down the geotextile and began assembling the gabion baskets, preparing them for rock fill the following week.

From start to finish, the project progressed seamlessly, aside from the inevitable rain delays typical of Cape Town’s rainy season. After completing the initial 40-meter section of the gabion wall, Lynne requested an amendment, adding a 4-meter buttress at the end of the wall.

In Phase 2 of the project, we tackled the entrance driveway to the home. This phase involved constructing a 10-metre gabion wall, 1 metre in height, curving at the entrance. For this section, we used Table Mountain sandstone, which complements the natural surroundings beautifully.
